NEWPORT NEWS -- The USS Abraham Lincoln held a change of command ceremony Thursday at Victory Landing Park in Newport News.

Capt. Karl O. Thomas relinquished command to Capt. Ronald L. Ravelo.

Capt. Thomas will proceed to USS Carl Vinson as commanding officer.

USS Abraham Lincoln is America’s fifth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier. The ship was named in honor of our nation’s 16th president and is the second ship in the U.S. Navy to bear his name.

Lincoln is currently undergoing a refueling complex overhaul at Newport News Shipbuilding. Lincoln is the fifth ship of the Nimitz class to undergo an RCOH, a major life-cycle milestone. Once RCOH is complete, Lincoln will be one of the most modern and technologically advanced Nimitz-class aircraft carriers in the fleet.
