Twin brothers arrested for robbing two Hampton businesses

UPDATE 4/7/14:  Twin brothers were arrested in connection to two Hampton business robberies last October, officials said Monday.

Rakeen and Shakeen Northcutt were arrested for robberies that occurred at the Osming Buffet on October 20, 2013 and the Buckroe Beach Market on October 28, 2013.

Shakeen Northcutt is charged with burglary while armed, five counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, two counts of robbery, two counts of abduction and gang Participation. He is currently in the custody of the Hampton Sheriff’s Office.

Search continues for third suspect-Rakeem Dejonte Northcutt. 

HAMPTON -- One person has been arrested and police are searching for two others who they say robbed a Hampton store at gunpoint Monday.

According to police spokeswoman Cpl. Mary Shackelford, two men pulled a gun and demanded money from the owner of Buckroe Beach Market, in the 200 block of Buckroe Ave., around 9:30 p.m.

Shackelford says the suspects fired at the employee and then left without any money.

The store owner, who said he had served in the Egyptian military, and described what happened.

"Everyone had a gun and he asked for money and he shot (at) me one time, and I like give him the money, but he don't give me chance and the other one behind him, he shot me down the other time, two times," he recounted.

No one was injured during the incident.

The suspects were seen getting into a 1983 Chevrolet parked in the 2400 block of East Pembroke Avenue. When officers tried to stop the vehicle two of the suspects ran, Shackelford said. 

Jaquan Lashawn Powell, 20, has active warrants for burglary while armed, attempt robbery, attempt maiming, shooting in an occupied dwelling, four counts of use of a firearm in the commission and wearing a mask in public.

Rakeem Dejonte Northcutt, 21, has active warrants for burglary while armed, attempt robbery, attempt maiming, shooting in an occupied dwelling, four counts use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The third person in the vehicle, 23-year-old Clinton T. Mcphail, was arrested and charged with burglary while armed, four counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, attempt robbery, attempt maiming and shooting in an occupied dwelling.

Mcphail is currently in the custody of the Hampton Sheriff’s Office.
