MIDDLESEX (AP) -- Authorities have identified a man and a woman who died after a boat hit a break wall near the entrance to the Rappahannock River at Windmill Point.

The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries says 37-year-old Catherine Smith Williams and 46-year-old Robert Andrews Taylor Jr. were killed Friday night. Their hometowns weren't released.

Media outlets report that the 25-foot boat first hit a channel marker in Broad Creek. Authorities received a 911 call from the boat reporting the incident. The man said his female passenger was injured.

Before rescuers could reach the scene, the boater left and then hit the break wall.

Authorities say speed was a factor. The investigation is continuing.
