SUFFOLK- Two people were sent to the hospital after an early morning fire caused heavy damage to a Suffolk home.
Firefighters arrived at the scene in the 200 block of Holladay Street just before 12:50 AM Tuesday to find a two story home with heavy smoke showing and flames shooting out the back.
City spokesperson Diana Klink tells 13News Now that one person was trapped inside the home and had to be rescued by firefighters. She and another person were taken to Sentara Obici Hospital with what's being described as "non-life threatening" injuries.
Five adults and one child live in the home, which sustained heavy damage. They are receiving help from the Red Cross.
Family members tell 13News Now's Sandra Parker that one of the victims suffered smoke inhalation and complications from asthma.
A home next door was evacuated and that home suffered some external damage from extreme heat. A nearby apartment building was also briefly evacuated.
