CAMDEN COUNTY -- Two people have been arrested in connection with an armed bank robbery Thursday afternoon.
The Camden County Sheriff’s Office received a call just before 5 p.m. that the Towne Bank of Currituck on West US 158 had been robbed.
Witnesses told deputies that a light skinned female wearing a wig walked up to a teller, presented a demand note and flashed a weapon. They said once the woman received an unknown amount of cash, she fled on foot toward ShoreFlyte dry dock boat repair facility.
Deputies later found the cash and the female subject hiding in a boat. She was arrested without incident. Authorities have identified her as Athena Lau Yancey, 31, of Virginia Beach.
Also charged in connection with the robbery was Jesse Lee Baker, 24, of Virginia Beach. Deputies say he was driving a getaway car parked down the street.
Both suspects are currently being held on $350,00 dollars bond in the Albemarle District Jail.
“Deputies were quick on this one and I am certainly proud of their efforts,” said Sheriff Tony Perry.
