ACCOMACK COUNTY -- A Melfa man is on trial, accused of killing the two-year-old daughter of a woman with whom he lived at Mill Run apartments in Belle Haven last year.

The trial for James Martinez Snead, 32, has been scheduled for two days in Accomack Circuit Court. He's charged with second-degree murder and abuse and neglect of a child.

The victim, Jasheena Bull, was pronounced dead at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital on April 30, 2013, after she was reportedly injured in a fall, police said at the time.

"Upon receipt of the completed autopsy report, investigators determined that the cause of death in this case was homicide," Accomack Sheriff Todd Godwin had said.

The child’s mother, Victoria Mae Joynes, 37, of Belle Haven, is charged with abuse and neglect of her daughter. Her trial is set for Oct. 9.

Snead was denied bond in a court hearing after prosecutors said former convictions, including hit and run and eluding police, showed he was a flight risk.
