MACHIPONGO-- A tour bus headed to Virginia Beach crashed on the Eastern Shore injuring over a dozen people on Saturday morning.

Virginia State Police responded to the 13000 block of Lankford Highway just after 6 a.m. The bus was heading south on the highway when it ran off the road and crashed into a ditch.

No other vehicles were involved. 

There were 55 people on board during the crash and police advised that 13 passengers were transported to a nearby hospital for minor injuries. The group was traveling with Vision Tours Bus, which leases the bus from ABC Bus Leasing in Minnesota, on their way from New York to Virginia Beach.

The driver, 59-year-old Jeffrey Williams of New York, has been charged with failure to keep a vehicle on the road. Williams was not injured.

Police advise that passengers were from various locations including New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia Beach.

The crash remains under investigation.
