PORTSMOUTH -- Three boaters were rescued off the North Carolina coast Tuesday afternoon.
The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan merchant vessel rescued the three boaters approximately 35 miles south of Fort Macon, N.C.
The sailboat Reel Safe reported they were taking on water around noon.
Sector watchstanders diverted a crew aboard a Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter who were conducting training in the area to assist.
The captain of the 485-foot cargo ship Islandia received the UMIB and diverted the ship to assist.
The Islandia rescued the boaters, who had abandoned their vessel, and the Jayhawk crew hoisted the boaters aboard the helicopter.
There are no reports of injuries.
