YORK CO. -- One person remains in the hospital in "guarded condition" after he allegedly opened fire on a home in York County and was apparently shot when residents retaliated, authorities said.

According to York-Poquoson Sheriff's office officials, a man dressed in a black ski mask began shooting at two women and a man who were leaving a home in the 200 block of Thoreau Circle around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Officials say the resident returned fire and the suspect fled in a tan SUV.

Nobody in the home was injured.

A short time later, the suspect was dropped off at a local hospital and was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, officials said.

Investigators can't say if the incident was a "random act of violence" but they don't believe anybody else is in danger.

Officials say they have been unable to identify the suspect and the investigation is on-going.
