SUFFOLK -- Suffolk Police made an arrest in a weekend vehicle theft and say the suspect has also been linked to several incidents of thefts from vehicles.
According to police, 30-year-old Peter Michael Vanderlinden stole a Toyota Sienna from the 5000 block of Hunt Club Chase Saturday. The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside.
On Sunday, officers received a report of a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle operating recklessly. The stolen vehicle was recovered at the Walgreen’s parking lot at the corner of Bridge Road and Shoulders Hill Road.
Vanderlinden was charged with grand larceny and possession of burglary tools. Police say Vanderlinden was also in possession of various forms of personal identification that were believed to have been stolen from other vehicles.
Police urge citizens to lock their vehicles and either remove valuables or place them in the trunk to avoid becoming a victim of theft.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
Vanderlinden is currently being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
