NEWPORT NEWS-What will you do to avoid paying tolls at the Midtown and Downtown tunnels next month?

A study this month by the Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization and Christopher Newport University will look at driver behavior before and after the tolls begin February 1. The researchers will determine if people are taking their usual route or driving other ways to miss the tolls.

The City of Portsmouth, meantime, should have a report soon on how the impending tolls on the Downtown and Midtown in Portsmouth will impact residents, businesses and the government.

Officials hired Old Dominion University economics professor James Koch to do the story, which is due sometime the first week of January.
