HAMPTON ROADS -- No matter where you live in Hampton Roads and northeastern North Carolina, there's snow outside your window.

13News viewers have emailed hundreds of photographs showing their pets and their children enjoying the snow, whether they got a couple of inches or more than half a foot.

The snow started overnight and by first light, snow covered yards and roads.

The Virginia Beach 911 Center has received numerous calls children on sleds being pulled from the back of vehicles.  Officials warn against doing that, calling it extremely dangerous.

Va. State Police were responding to dozens of accidents across the Hampton Roads area.

At Newport News-Williamsburg Airport, all Delta and USAir flights for Saturday have been cancelled; AirTran's morning flights were cancelled and it was unclear whether afternoon and evening flights would go on.

Spokeswoman Jessica Wharton says the airport itself is open, but airlines are choosing to cancel flights. So if you have a flight leaving or are expecting someone to arrive at Newport News-Williamsburg Airport, call the airline before you venture out.

At Norfolk International Airport, spokesman Wayne Shank the airport is open, but many airlines are choosing not to fly full schedules.

"Our message is if you're flying, the airport is open but check with the airline to see if they're flying," Shank stated.

Shank said that conditions at other airports also impact flights that are scheduled to leave or arrive at Norfolk.
