TANGIER ISLAND -- The medical examiner says skeletal remains found on Tangier Island earlier this month are those of a person who died between 75-150 years ago.

The bones were in a box near a dumpster.

"Somebody found them and put them in a box by a dumpster, and someone else found the box and reported it to the Virginia Marine Police and one of our officers retrieved them," said Va. Marine Resources Commission spokesman John Bull.

He said the remains may be from an old cemetery on the north end of the island that were uncovered by the fall's storms.
