NORFOLK -- Grab an umbrella or your raincoat as you head out the door today.  Showers and a few storms are in the forecast - and thunderstorms could come in the afternoon and on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service warns the scattered thunderstorms in the ABC13 News viewing area may bring strong, gusty winds and locally-heavy rain Tuesday afternoon and evening.

"There will be thunderstorms around for the evening commute, and that could lead to some issues as folks drive home," says 13News Now Meteorologist Evan Stewart. "Any slow-moving storms could cause water to pond on the roadways."

The NWS says strong thunderstorms will move across the Outer Banks/Dare County through 8:45 a.m. and could have winds gusting to 30-40 MPH, heavy rainfall and minor flooding.

Temps in the mid-80s Tuesday and even hotter Wednesday with highs in the upper 80s.

After that, a cold front comes through and brings temperatures in the lower 80s with clearing skies.
