NORFOLK -- A man wanted for robbery and sexual assault was arrested following a short pursuit from Va. Beach into Norfolk.

Police say they tried to stop Jamaine McCutchen on I-264 West near the old toll plaza early Sunday, but he wouldn't pull over.

The pursuit went into Norfolk and ended when McCutchen abandoned his SUV and ran into the woods on W. Princess Anne Road, according to authorities.

Residents say police found in a muddy creek around 4:30 a.m.

McCutchen was in the victim's home on Veau Court around 3:45 a.m. and made advances that she rebuffed, according to MPO Adam Bernstein.

"He got angry, put her into chokehold and then sexually assaulted her before stealing jewelry and laptops from her home," he stated.

McCutchen, 33, of Little Bay Avenue in Norfolk is in the Va. Beach City Jail without bond on charges of robbery, misdemeanor sexual assault and abduction.

Police say the victim and suspect know each other.
