NORFOLK-- Police are searching for a group of men involved in two separate robberies at Old Dominion University.

Saturday morning around 2:30 am, a campus alert said four or five men robbed a student near 40th st. and Bluestone.

Then, on Sunday morning around 1:30am, a report that a non-ODU student was robbed at gunpoint by two men.

Police are searching for the suspects, leaving students on edge.

"I have an added worry in addition to my school work. If I'm out late at night, I have to worry about someone trying to rob me," Freshman Shannon Johnson said.

ODU has a history of violent crime. In August, a man was shot in a campus neighborhood. In April, a gunman robbed three students. Last year a student was assaulted walking near campus and another student was stabbed before a football game.

"We are freshman and this is worrying," student Bianca Banks said.

The university and city are talking about opening a new police headquarters near campus.

Johnson hopes they do something soon, before a student gets hurt or even killed.

"I try to be in by midnight so it doesn't happen to me," Johnson said.

ODU encourages students to sign up for the campus alert system and to use the safe ride program. A shuttle will drive students around campus late at night for free.
