VIRGINIA BEACH -- People living in King's Grant Landing South in Virginia Beach say trash handlers are being too hasty with trash pick up.

Penny Evans turned to 13News when she repeatedly tried to get the city to take responsibility for her cracked trash bin.

"We pay for our trash cans and I don't think they have a right to throw and toss them around to cause damage," said Evans.

Unlike other neighborhoods, King's Grant Landing South is a subdivision that doesn't use city-issued bins.  Homeowners buy their own bins.

When Evans contacted the city, she got a voicemail saying, "Your trash can - we're not going to replace that can.  We're not going to do anything.  We're not responsible."

13News called Waste Management again for Evans and was told that Evans and other neighbors could apply for new bins through the city's risk management department.

The waste management superintendent said that he would also investigate the complaints of trucks speeding through the neighborhood.
