Va. Beach rape, robberies
VIRGINIA BEACH -- Police have arrested one of two suspects in last Friday's rape and robbery of a woman at a Va. Beach apartment complex.
The 17-year-old's name hasn't been released because he's a juvenile; the search continues for the second suspect.
In court Monday, he was ordered held without bond, given an attorney and a March 3 trial was set, according to the commonwealth's attorney office.
Prosecutors say they want the teen tried as an adult and a hearing shortly before the March appearance will be held on that issue.
The teen is charged with two counts of robbery, three counts of use of firearm, abduction with intent, rape, forcible sodomy and wearing a mask in public, according to the commonwealth's attorney office.
"I was scared to death. I just knew my life was over," the woman said Friday afternoon. "I was just saying 'Lord, I'm not ready to die yet.' That's all I was saying."
She had just gotten home from work and was a few feet from her doorstop when two men came up from behind her around 1:30 a.m.
"They told me if I scream they're going to shoot me in the head," she recalled.
Within moments, a man drove into the parking lot of the complex in Bayside Arms neighborhood. One suspect went over to the truck and pistol whipped the man and robbed him before returning to continue her assault.
"He was laughing. He said, 'You just wait a minute, I'm not finished with her yet,'" she stated.
After the rape, they took her purse, which had $9, and left.
The suspects are in their late teens or early 20s and could be responsible for two street robberies in that area on Thursday and Tuesday.
The 17-year-old was arrested at his home around 11:00 p.m. Friday, said police spokesman MPO Adam Bernstein.
He's charged with two counts of robbery, three counts of use of firearm, abduction with intent, rape, forcible sodomy and wearing a mask in public, according to the commonwealth's attorney office.
