UPDATE: 1/10: Police say the man has struck for a fifth time.
It was just about 10:50 p.m. and she was attacked as she was about to go into the front door of her home in the 500 block of Ivy Ave., said Harold Eley.
"He came up behind her and began tugging at her purse. She refused to let go, pushed him away and started screaming," Eley said.
The man threw her against a brick wall, punched and kicked her as they struggled over the purse, but she still didn't give up her purse and he left.

NEWPORT NEWS -- Police are looking for the man they believe attacked four women on separate occasions in Newport News since New Year's Eve.
Police say the women were walking alone and were approached by a man who stole their purses by force.
The victims were approached from behind after getting out of their vehicles or walking up to residences.
A 52-year-old Newport News woman was approached from behind in the 1200 block of Wickham Avenue on New Year's Eve after she had gotten out of her car. Police say the suspect grabbed the woman and dragged her until she let go of her purse.
A 19-year-old woman getting off a bus near Hampton Avenue and Marshall Avenue was also attacked on New Year's Eve by the same suspect, police believe.
The suspect approached the woman and tried to initiate conversation. The victim ignored the suspect, who then placed his hands over her eyes and mouth and dragged her onto a driveway in the 2100 block of Marshall Avenue. During the struggle the suspect pulled a razor blade out of his pocket and cut the woman in the face. He then took her purse and ran. The victim suffered minor injuries.
Police believe the same suspect attacked a 52-year-old woman who had gotten out of her vehicle in the 800 block of 20th Street on Jan. 3.
Police say the man approached her from the sidewalk, grabbed her purse and pulled her to the ground. The man ran away with the woman's purse towards 19th St.
The victim sustained minor injuries during the struggle.
A 71-year-old woman was walking from a home in the 800 block of 11th Street on Jan. 8, when she felt someone tugging at her purse, causing her to fall down porch stairs. The suspect took the woman’s purse and ran away through the yard.
Police say the man is a light-skinned black male, 18 to 25-years-old, 5'7” to 5'9”, medium build, very curly hair and was seen wearing a gray hoodie with the hood up.
