JAMES CITY COUNTY -- A purse snatcher didn't get very far in James City County, thanks to two good Samaritans.

Benjamin Lewis, 28, is in jail after he reportedly tried to take a woman's purse outside Target at the Monticello Marketplace Shopping Center Thursday night.

Police say the victim was talking on her cell phone and walking toward the store around 9 p.m. when Lewis grabbed her purse.

The 53-year-old victim screamed. That's when a Target employee and a male shopper ran after Lewis and tackled him.

The good Samaritans were injured, but both managed to hold the suspect down until police arrived to take him into custody.

"I did what anyone would do. And I didn't like seeing the woman get hurt." Target employee Phillip Hicks said.
