6:05 a.m. UPDATE: Dominion says crews got power to the Thalia area of Va. Beach as of 5:51 a.m.; Hampton was restored just before 6 a.m.
VIRGINIA BEACH-Equipment problems for Dominion Virginia Power have put nearly 5,000 customers in the dark - mostly in Va. Beach and Hampton.
Spokeswoman Bonita Billingsley Harris says 2,400 customers in the Kings Lake and Price Philip areas of Va. Beach have no power. The problems were caused by the wind.
"Crews are trying to isolate the problem and make repairs with equipment in the Constitution Drive and Corporate Lane area," she said.
Crews hope to have power restored by 7 a.m.
In Hampton, 2,200 customers have no electricity. The outage is affecting the Peninsula Town Center area down Mercury Blvd. to Armistead Avenue.
The lights are back on for North Carolina customers in the Lake Gaston area. Wednesday around 9:45 p.m., 825 customers lost power in that area. Billingsley Harris says crews determined a broken pole caused the problem. Power was restored for 300 customers just after midnight. The remaining 525 restored by 5:11 a.m. Thursday, she noted.
