PORTSMOUTH -- Police are investigating after a student was approached by a stranger while walking to her Portsmouth middle school Monday morning.

Police say a man driving a pickup truck pulled up to a 13-year-old girl around 7:45 a.m. near Prospect and Afton parkways.

The victim told police the male driver rolled down his window and offered to give her a ride to school because it was cold.  Police say the victim ignored the man and continued to walk to school.   The male then left the area.

The suspect is described as a clean-shaven black man in his forties or fifties and was last seen wearing a gray hoodie.

The man was driving a silver and white pickup truck at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information as to the identity of the suspect or the vehicle involved in this incident is asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
