PORTSMOUTH (AP) -- Portsmouth police officers have been barred from working off-duty security jobs at poker halls in the city.
Police Chief Ed Hargis' directive is in response to Commonwealth's Attorney Earl Mobley's announcement that he would prosecute owners of gambling establishments that aren't sanctioned by the state.
Police department spokesman Detective John Doyle says Hargis rescinded authorization for part-time work at poker halls on Monday after receiving a letter from Mobley's office.
