NORFOLK --  Norfolk police have a warning for you if you own an older model car.  They say thieves are targeting older model vehicles , primarliy from single family homes and apartment building parking lots.  They are being stolen overnight and abandoned before they can be reported stolen. Police say it's happening between the hours of 11 PM until 5 AM. 

They are getting into the vehicles through bypassing locks and attacking ignition wires and steering columns.  Items such as GPS units, radios, or anything of value are being takeng from these vehicles. 

The top 5 targeted vehicles ( primarily manufactured prior to 1997) :

  1. Oldsmobile (Cutlass Ciera)
  2. Buick (Century)
  3. Chevrolet (Blazer, Monte Carlo)
  4. Dodge (Caravan, Dakota)
  5. GMC (Sierra, Jimmy)

You should keep all vehicles locked and parked in well lit areas.  Any items of value should be removed from the vehilcle.
