POQUOSON-- State Police were investigating an officer-involved shooting Tuesday evening.

The pursuit suspect, 32-year-old Kevin Ardary of Newport News, is currently being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond.

Poquoson Police and the York County Sheriff’s Office have each charged Ardary with one felony count of eluding police and one count of reckless driving. Additional charges are pending.

The incident began around 5:40 p.m. when a 1995 Oldsmobile sedan refused to stop for a Poquoson police officer. A pursuit began and at  one point  the Oldsmobile stopped near the dead end of River Road.

As officers approached the car,  it sped towards the officers who fired at the vehicle.

The Oldsmobile left the scene and officers continued their pursuit. It came  to an end in York County on Route 134.

York County deputies and Poquoson officers took the male suspect  into custody without incident. He was treated for minor injuries at the scene, but refused to be transported to a hospital for any further medical attention.

In accordance with agency policy, two Poquoson Police Officers have been placed on administrative leave with pay while the shooting is investigated.
