NEWPORT NEWS -- A Newport News teenager has been charged after she allegedly assaulted her estranged husband in front of their child.

According to police, 19-year-old Abigail Cruz damaged her husband's car with a pair of pliers and slashed the tires on August 13.

Cruz allegedly threw the pliers and struck the man in the back.  The couple's infant daughter witnessed the incident, police said.

A few hours later, Cruz attempted to get into the man’s home and when she was unable, she threw an object through the front window.

Cruz was arrested Tuesday and charged with assault on a family member, violation of a protective order and child neglect.
