A fire official tells 13News Now 19-year-old Dylan Hammond and his homemade device were found in a garage in the 9700 block of Jefferson Avenue.

NEWPORT NEWS -- A tip reportedly prevented an explosive situation in Newport News Thursday.
     
Police arrested 19-year-old Dylan Hammond Thursday for allegedly making an explosive device.
     
A fire official tells 13News Now Hammond and his homemade device were found in a garage in the 9700 block of Jefferson Avenue. 

The suspect apparently didn't live at the home.

No further information was released.
