PORTSMOUTH -- Detectives with the Portsmouth Police Department are investigating an early morning robbery that occurred at a local convenience store over the weekend.

They say the suspect entered the 7-Eleven located in the 4000 block of George Washington Highway just after 6:30 a.m. Saturday.

The suspect asked an employee if he could get change for a $20 bill, police said. As the employee began getting the change from the register, the suspect reached across the counter and pointed a box cutter at the employee.  The suspect then jumped across the counter, grabbed the money from the employee’s hand and fled the location.

The suspect is described as a white male between the ages of 35-45 years old.  He is approximately 5'6" to 5'8,” weighing between 140-160 pounds with blonde hair.  The suspect was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark gray zip-up hooded jacket, dark colored shirt, black skullcap with gray stripes and sandals.  The suspect also had facial hair on his chin.

Detectives are asking anyone who can identify the suspect pictured in the photographs or have any information about this incident to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
