Poquoson dog bite investigation
POQUOSON -- Police say a dog bit a child, tearing off part of the 3-year-old boy's ear.
It happened just before 5:00 p.m. Wednesday outside a mobile home on Wythe Creek Road.
According to investigators, the boy and a family member were in a neighbor's yard when the boy wandered away. They say they heard a dog bark and then the boy cry out.
The child was behind a storage shed next to a short fence that separates properties; the Golden Retriever was in its yard.
Medics say part of the child's left ear was missing and the boy was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The incident is under investigation by York-Poquoson Child Protective Services and the Newport News Animal Services Division.
