NEWPORT NEWS -- A Newport News man believed to be under the influence of spice was arrested over the weekend.

Police said around 1 a.m. on Saturday, 42-year-old Victor Guadalupe Mercado-Gudino threatened to kill a resident in the 300 block of Hogan Drive.  Then, he reportedly was banging on a door to another residence and screaming.

As police approached Mercado-Gudino, he allegedly began growling and charged at an officer. The suspect was detained and transported to a local hospital.

According to police, while being treated, the suspect attempted to bite a nurse, made lewd remarks and lunged aggressively at a third nurse.

At one point, while medical personnel were attempting to treat the suspect, he had to be subdued with the use of a Taser, police said.

Mercado-Gudino was charged with one count each of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, drunk in public and assault and felony indecent exposure. He was placed in the custody of the Newport News City Jail.
