UPDATE: 4/15  8:45 AM  Police arrested and charged 59-year-old  Leland Eyre Haller, Jr. for defacing of gravestones from a Frisco grave site.

DARE COUNTY, NC -- Big chunks of headstones were tossed in a dumpster in Frisco, North Carolina.

They were found on March 24 and the Dare Co. Sheriff's Office has been trying to find out who put them there.

"The gravestones are from the late 1800s and early 1900s," Sgt. Doug Oberbeck told WVEC.com. "We have identified the names on the stones and know the pieces came from graves in Frisco."

They were identified as pieces from the headstones from Robert B Basnett, who died 1896, and Ulethe C. Fulcher, who died in 1901.

Sgt. Oberbeck says the Sheriff's Office has been in contact with distant family about the situation as well.

For now, the pieces sit in the Sheriff's Office as the investigation continues. Anyone that can help with the case should contact Sgt. Oberbeck at 1-252-475-9355.
