Update 10/11:  Officials say a cause still has not been determined.  The road by the warehouse remains closed.

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY -- A peanut warehouse in Southampton County went up in flames Wednesday.

Several fire companies responded to Hancock Peanut on Merherrin Road in Courtland just after noon.

"It was called in by an employee on scene and initial reports indicate no one was in the burning building," Sheriff's Dept. spokesman Major Gene Drewery told WVEC.com.

Authorities closed Meherrin Road between Main St. and Indiantown Road so crews could get into the warehouse and safely fight the fire.

There were no reports of anyone being hurt.

Once the fire is out, investigators will work to determine how it started.
