NORFOLK -- Freezing temperatures didn't stop two women from PETA from stripping down to bikinis made of lettuce to hand out free veggie burgers near the Tide Tuesday.

The "Lettuce Ladies" were at the Monticello Station in Norfolk to kick off PETA's new ad campaign on Hampton Roads' light rail.

The ads, which feature longtime supporter Russell Simmons, encourage anyone who is tempted to get healthy, help animals, or "go green" in 2014 to "get on board—go vegan!"

PETA has done this in other cities as well, trying to persuade people to adapt a vegan diet, which they argue is not only more humane but also a healthier option.
