DARE COUNTY, NC - Dare County says impacts from soundside flooding overnight were less than anticipated, allowing most roads in the county to remain open.

However, some roads were still impassable because of ocean overwash: Highway 12 on Hatteras Island; the 158 Bypass in Kitty Hawk near Milepost 4 but traffic's being rerouted through neighborhoods west of the highway; areas of Highway 12 (Beach Road) in northern beach towns.

Avoid travel through Bypass in Kitty Hawk, if possible.

Damage assessment teams are in the field today to survey the effects of the storm.

The Dare County Emergency Operations Center will be operating throughout the storm and may be reached at 252-475-5655 or check the Dare County Website for updated information.
