PORTSMOUTH -- Portsmouth's Olde Towne business district looks more like a ghost town because few businesses braved the nor'easter to open.

A few restaurants along High Street were open. The owner of Longboards Hawaiian Bar and Grill said there's been a steady stream of customers. Baron's Pub and The Blue Iguana also were ready for customers.

Some other businesses off High Street also opened their doors.

Shoppers who got out in the storm took opportunities to get inside and dry off, even if it was for a few minutes.

Streets in the area, especially those around Crawford Parkway near Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, are often underwater when the Elizabeth River rises over its banks.

A few residents said they take it in stride; that it's worth the headache once in a while to live and do business in the historic district.
