NORFOLK -- "Every time that phone rings, every time, I keep thinking it's gonna be the police calling, saying that, you know, that they have that person," Mary Ann Zakrzewski tells 13News.
Zakrzewski has been waiting and hoping for the call for four years. On October 11, 2006 someone stabbed her husband to death. Wally Zakrzewski was a security guard at Virginia Wesleyan College.
The 57-year-old was in the middle of his rounds when his killer attacked. A fellow guard found his body.
"He was just so proud in that uniform. He looked so handsome in it," says Zakrzewski. "It's been four years now and what we knew four years ago is, you know, really no different than what we know now. At least, that's what I'm told."
Virginia Wesleyan remembered "Officer Wally" Monday through a memorial service on the campus. The college continues to offer a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. That's in addition to the Crime Solvers reward which pays as much as $1,000 for a tip that leads to an arrest.
"They keep saying that they're gonna let me know as soon as the case breaks. They'll on the phone, or they'll be over here to let me know, and we haven't heard anything, but I just know that I'm not gonna give up hope," Zakrzewski says.
Anyone with information about the crime can call Virginia Beach Crime Solvers at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
