ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY-- A man from Norfolk was found dead Friday night following an apparent hunting accident.

According to the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (VDGIF), 61-year-old Kevin Stanley Beatty was deer hunting alone around 12014 Dews Plantation Road.

Lee walker, a VDGIF spokesman, says his family called the owner of the land where he was hunting after not hearing from him. The land owner later found Beatty hanging from his safety harness with head and hand injuries, said Walker.

Investigators say it appeared that Beatty was climbing down from his tree stand when the ladder above him broke. He was transported to the Norfolk Medical Examiner's Office to confirm the official cause of death.

The incident remains under investigation.
