NORFOLK (AP) -- The School of Rock is coming to Virginia.

Owner Skip Locke says he's opening a franchise of the Teaneck, N.J.-based company in Norfolk. The after-school program's fall session for young, would-be rock-n-rollers is scheduled to start Tuesday in a former art store.

The 2003 film of the same name was based on the School of Rock in Philadelphia, which has expanded into more than 65 similar programs in the United States and Mexico.

Locke told the Virginian-Pilot that the idea is to take a group of kids and see whether the school brings out undiscovered talent.

Locke's operation offers lessons in guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and singing for individuals and groups of kids ranging from age 7 to 18. Tuition runs $265 a month.
