NORFOLK -- With insurance companies and some developers refusing to compensate people whose homes were built with Chinese drywall, the City of Norfolk is considering asking for an emergency declaration to free up aid.
At Tuesday night's meeting, city council members will consider a resolution reqeusting Gov. Bob McDonnell declare a state of emergency to activate all state emergency and relief resources for affected homeowners.
Council members banned the use of Chinese drywall in the city on May 18, 2009 after reports of corrosion and health problems associated with the material.
There is no city fiscal impact associated with the resolution, according to the city manager’s office.
