NORFOLK -- The Downtown Civic league has concerns about accessibility and aesthetics with The Tide light rail project.
The organization submitted a report with 65 pictures to the City of Norfolk citing concerns like accessibility for people in wheelchairs.
One picture shows a pole in the middle of a sidewalk on Plume Street.
"If downtown is going to be a walkable city that means being able to walk downtown unobstructed sidewalks not having to walk into traffic into roads that are shared by light rail and there are some of those issues that need to be addressed," said Kevin Murphy, president of the Norfolk Downtown Civic League.
Hampton Roads Transit and the City of Norfolk say they're looking into all of these concerns.
HRT says the Plume Street pole will be moved as soon as a new design is figured out.
"That appears to just be a design error. It's a complex project with many parts and that seems to be one that slipped through we'll fix it and we'll be fine," said Tom Holden, spokesman for Hampton Roads Transit.
Holden says all accessibility design flaws will be fixed before the light rail opens next spring.
"I can assure you that all of them will be addressed. Some of them involve simply moving the location of a sign," said Holden.
