NORFOLK-- Families in one of the poorest sections of east Oceanview received a lot of help Saturday.
“I have grandchildren, and my neighbors need help. Everyone needs help. It’s wonderful,” resident Ken Lohn said.
The storehouse received 10,000 pounds of donated food, and about 500 families were helped.  Residents without health insurance could also get a free checkup.
The storehouse has been a community food pantry run by the New Life Christian Center for 27 years.  In 2009 a nor’easter destroyed the storehouse, but Bon Secours and Operation Blessing stepped in to rebuild the center.
“There’s a lot of need. The annual income in this area is about $15,000. We’re here to be a blessing,” Jody Gettys explained.
