NORFOLK-- A Norfolk police car hit a person riding a bike early Sunday.
NPD says the bicyclist is at Norfolk General Hospital with serious injuries.
The accident happened in the 1500 block of Brambleton Avenue around 1:30 am.
Police are investigating.
This is the second time a driver hit a bicyclist in Norfolk this month.
On July 13th, traffic was closed down for an hour after a biker was hit on Tidewater Dr. and Virginia Beach Boulevard.
Here's some biking safety laws, according to VDOT.
1. Under 14 must wear a helmet.
2. Can’t wear headphones in both ears while biking.
3. Must ride with the flow of traffic, ride as close to the curb as possible.
4. Bicyclists must obey all traffic signs, signals, lights, and markings.
5. Biking at night, must have a reflectors on front and back of the bike.
Norfolk requires bicycle riders to license their bikes. It's free and can help solve bike theft. Go to this site to find a registration location.
