RICHMOND- Don't expect to find your Virginia tax refund check in the mail anymore.

Beginning this year, your money will be given via direct deposit or put on a prepaid debit card that carries some fees.

State officials say the the 2012-14 Appropriations Act (Virginia's budget for 2012-14) requires the change to save money.

When you file your return, you'll have to say which way you want your refund. If you don't select direct deposit, you'll receive a debit card.

Officials say these options are safer and more convenient than the traditional paper checks.

To learn about the options and see the fees involved for using debit cards, click here for the Va. Dept. of Taxation Website.
