NEWPORT NEWS -- A Newport News woman who allegedly left her two toddlers home alone, locked in a bedroom, was charged Friday.

Police spokesman Lou Thurston said officers approached 25-year-old Leslie Danielle Chavez Martin, who they knew to be wanted by York County Police, in the 800 block of Forrest Drive.

Officers then learned  Martin's sons, ages two and three, were left at her home alone, Thurston said.

Child Protective Services was notified.  A family member was contacted and took custody of the children.

Martin is charged with two counts of felony child neglect. She was also arrested for an outstanding warrant for assault and battery in York County.
