NEWPORT NEWS - Newport News police are investigating inappropriate photos of students posted on a 15-year-old girl’s Instagram account.
Instagram is a popular photo sharing application.
“You can’t put sexually suggestive photos on the Internet. It could be considered pornography,” Officer Harold Eley said.
Eley explained the teen found multiple suggestive photos of her classmates online and called police.
If police determine the photos are pornographic, the teenagers involved could face penalties.
“It depends whether the teens took the photos themselves or if someone else took the photos,” Eley added.
This is the city’s first case of a student reporting lewd photos on Instagram, according to detectives.
Eley says the penalty or posting photos that are harmful to juveniles on the Internet is up to a year in jail and/or up to $2,500 fine.
