NEWPORT NEWS -- A Newport News elementary school was briefly on lockdown after employees reported hearing gunfire.
Authorities were called to property that borders the back side of Newsome Park Elementary around 3:35 p.m.
Police checked the area and school and didn't find anything.
The school notified parents of the situation as a precaution.
An investigation is under way.
