UPDATE: Police ID Hampton man found dead in his car in Newport News

1:55 p.m. UPDATE: Police have identified the victim in the murder investigation in the 100 block of Ash Avenue in Newport News. He is 36-year-old James Arthur Millar of Greenbriar Avenue in Hampton.

11:40 a.m. UPDATE: Newport News police have confirmed that the body of a man found in a car on Ash Avenue is a 36-year-old Hampton man. They are now investigating his death as a homicide. 

Police have yet to release the victim's name, but relatives say he grew up about a block from the crime scene.

Family members tell 13News Now the victim was found in his car wearing the same clothes he had on Tuesday night. 

"This ain't right,"  said his cousin Garcia Whigham. "It's not supposed to happen to him, maybe happen to me, but it wasn't supposed to happen to him." 


NEWPORT NEWS -- Newport News police are investigating a suspicious death after a man was found dead inside a car Wednesday morning. 

Emergency personnel received a call of a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of Ash Avenue just after 8 a.m., according to police. 

When officers arrived on scene they found a man in his 30s deceased in the front seat of the car. 

Police say the body was discovered by someone who lives on the street. No further details were provided.
