NEWPORT NEWS-It was a great honor for a Newport News school choir to sing at The White House.
t was a great surprise when President Barack Obama stopped to hear them.
One of Woodside High School's Audition choirs, The Jubilee Chorale, performed Wednesday night.
"The students, Director and chaperons did indeed get to meet the President and he shook hands with each and everyone of us. We took a group photo with him and he asked the kids to perform a song," booster president Barbara Geneste told 13News Now anchor LaSalle Blanks.
She says they sang part of the song "I've Been Changed," spent a few moments chatting with the president and several of the students even hugged him.
"He was very warm and welcoming of that," she said.
The students were positioned outside a reception, which President Obama attended, where they were singing for the guests as they arrived.
"It was such an honor and privilege. The students, parents, and director had an amazing evening," Geneste added. "We are so very proud of these young people and the hard work and dedication they put forth."
