NEWPORT NEWS -- A recount is taking place between two candidates following a tightly contested Newport News School Board election.

Unofficial election results back in May gave Rick Jones Jr. a 47-vote lead over Gary B. Hunter in the city-wide race for the School Board's at-large seat.

An audit two days later found discrepancies and it was determined Hunter actually won the election.

Jones then requested a recount, which is taking place in Newport News on Friday.

City Registrar Vicki Lewis tells 13 News Now they expect to have the recount results around 3 p.m.
