WILLIAMSBURG - A one-month child has a broken arm and cuts and bruises caused by her mother, Williamsburg Police say.

Authorities say the investigation started May 1 after police went to Vicky Lynn Mills' home on Merrimac Trail.

Officers say the little girl had bruises on her left cheek, knee and thigh, scratches on her forehead, the bridge of the nose and the right side of the face.  They took the newborn to the hospital and doctors determined her left arm was broken as well.

Mills, 30, turned herself in late Friday, May 3, on a child abuse charge and was taken to the Va. Peninsula Regional Jail.

"The child was released for the hospital May 1st and is with a foster care family,"  police spokesman Major Greg Riley told WVEC.com.
